We had the type C 25 for the 3rd time, from Cruise America in various locations. A spacious, comfortable motorhome, full bathroom, dining and sleeping area. Due to its size, it is also well suited for city travelling.

Customer service from Cruise America Dallas was very nice. But the motorhome itself was absolutely disgusting. In the end we only stayed in it for 2 nights. The fridge had a weird smell that could be smelled throughout the motorhome if you opened it even briefly. Microwave and drawers were not cleaned. We felt very uncomfortable. Apart from that, it was louder than in an aeroplane. Very poor insulation.

Top tips for your Campervan trip to Dallas
Dallas is a big city, so give yourself time to explore before you hit the open road. The best time to rent a motorhome in Dallas is autumn or spring when it's still warm but slightly cooler. Summers in Texas can reach over 35°C, so theres a good chance your air conditioning will work overtime.
- Driving
Plan your drive outside rush hours to escape the city quickly. The Texas highways can stretch for miles without a petrol station, so always fill up before heading into remote areas.
- Family friendly activities
If you have kids (or just love animals), the Dallas World Aquarium is worth a visit. It’s home to sharks, sloths and even manatees. For cowboy culture, visit the Forth Worth Stockyards, just 40 minutes from Dallas.
- The outdoors
When you rent a motorhome in Dallas, theres so many outdoor places to visit. Just 30 miles from Dallas, Cedar Hill State Park has plenty of hiking, biking and fishing opportunities. For something unique, visit Dinosaur Valley State Park, where you can walk in the fossilised footprints of dinosaurs.
Campervan offers for families in Dallas
If you want to go on a family camping holiday in Dallas, we recommend a large motorhome. Alcove models are very popular with families with children, as the motorhomes are spacious and have several sleeping and seating areas.
Best Campervan routes from Dallas
Dallas to Big Bend National Park
Big skies, wide-open roads, and some of the most jaw-dropping landscapes in the state. This drive (over 800km) has it all. Start in Dallas, fuel up (on gas and BBQ) and head west through Hill Country. Stop at Fredericksburg, a town with German heritage and fantastic food. After that, the roads become more remote. If you’ve got a campervan for hire in Dallas, take a slight detour to Marfa, which is a quirky little town. Once you arrive at Big Bend National Park, you will be surrounded by fantastic rock formations and some of the best stargazing in America, as theres barely any light pollution.
Dallas to Padre Island National Seashore
Sticking with big road trips (because it's Texas), this 750km drive will take you from Dallas to Padre Island with a few stops. If you’ve got campervan hire in Dallas, you can take your time and enjoy the journey. Start on the I35 and stop at Austin, taking a dip in Barton Springs Pool. After that, San Antonio is only about an hour away, where you can check out The Alamo (because you have to, right?). After that (a good few hours later), cross the John F. Kennedy Causeway onto Padre Island, the perfect place to grab some seafood and set up camp.
Dallas to Palo Duro Canyon State Park
Start by heading out of Dallas toward Wichita Falls, where you can grab a selfie next to the World's Littlest Skyscraper (yes, that’s a real thing). After that, the road opens into what you would expect Texas to look like. Caprock Canyons State Park is a good pit stop, where you might catch a glimpse of wild bison and check out the rugged red rock formations. After that, you will arrive at Palo Duro Canyon State Park, the second-largest canyon in America (only the Grand Canyon beats it).
Sites of interest and excursions in Dallas
The Sixth Floor Museum
This is one of Dallas's most famous (and chilling) museums. It can be found in the former Texas School Book Depositary and takes you through the life, presidency, and assassination of John F. Kennedy. Looking out from the sixth-floor window, you will see where Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly fired the shots.
The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden
If you need a break from city life, head to the Dallas Arboretum. This 66-acre garden paradise is packed with seasonal flower displays, trails and picnic spots, which make it a great place to spend a lazy day. Depending on what time you visit will depend on what's there. At Christmas, it looks like something out of a Hallmark Movie, and there are fields of tulips in spring.
Reunion Tower
It sits 470 feet above the ground and is the most iconic landmark in the city. At the top are interactive exhibits, telescopes and floor-to-ceiling windows to look out of. If you’ve got a motorhome for hire in Dallas, it’s a great stop before heading out on a road trip. If you want to make a date night out of it, theres is a revolving restaurant inside the tower.

Yes - but watch out for deer, armadillos, and the odd cow that might have escaped from a ranch. Keep your full beam lights on where you can.
Yes, and you’ll love every second of it. The highways are wide and open and made for road trips. Even parking spaces are campervan-friendly. Just remember that speed limits in Texas are higher than in most states.
Yes, but this is Texas, and nature doesn’t play around. If you’re camping in a wooded area, don’t leave any rubbish outside the van unless you want a surprise visit from racoons, armadillos or coyotes.
Many Texas BBQ joints have drive-thrus big enough for campervans, so you can pick up a plate of brisket, ribs and cornbread without leaving your van.
