Family Standard, Düsseldorf, written on 5 months ago

The Family Standard category includes very different vehicle models. Length 5.9 to 7.3 metres. If you don't know this, you may be in for a surprise when you book a ferry journey.

There was a technical problem when booking via Camper days, which meant we had to postpone our travel plans by 1 day. The solution was then discussed with the station and we were kept in contact. Therefore it is not 5 stars, but a good 4 stars

Camper Cabin Deluxe, Cologne, written on 4 months ago

Small motorhome - for people who like it tight and have no problem with little storage space. But you also get a motorhome that lives up to its name. It drives almost like a car and you have no parking problems in cities. Great for holidaymakers who want minimalist travel with a good level of "residual comfort". A very good touring caravan with the option of staying overnight almost anywhere. Tip: take a small pop-up tent with you...then you can store bulky items at campsites, e.g. chairs, suitcases.... so you have more space for the travellers. --Our Nugget unfortunately had some defects...The previous tenants didn't treat it the way you usually treat your own things, very unfortunate!

Camper as usual from Roadsurfer in top condition, unfortunately not 100% clean. Unfortunately this time also an unsympathetic handover at both pick-up and return.

Great team, great vehicle, had a great holiday. The rear bed is a bit uncomfortable on the shower pull-out.

The introduction was very short and concise. But Roadsurfer has great videos that you can watch if you need them. One week with the camper is too short

Essential information for your trip to Düsseldorf

The best time of year to visit Düsseldorf is between mid-May and mid-September. The warmer months offer visitors comfortable temperatures averaging around 24 degrees, ideal for motorhome rental in Düsseldorf. The mild weather continues into October, which is another good time to visit as there are fewer crowds, and you can still eat al fresco and enjoy some time on the Rhine.

  • Driving in Düsseldorf
    Driving in Düsseldorf

Almost every German city now has a ‘green zone’, which applies to all vehicles driven by a German resident or a visitor. Düsseldorf has been a low-emission zone since 2013, so you should check when you pick up your campervan in Düsseldorf that it has a sticker to comply.

  • The Rhine Valley
    The Rhine Valley

The Rhine River Promenade is a riverside walk alongside Carlstadt and the old town. There are plenty of cafes and bars, and you can take a boat trip near the Burgplatz. It’s easy to get to Cologne by boat or road from Düsseldorf and visitors can continue to explore beyond Cologne to the picturesque and beautiful areas of the Middle Rhine.

  • Culture and History
    Culture and History

Düsseldorf was the home of the West German art scene before reunification, and the city was famous for pushing the boundaries with architecture, too. Neue Zollhof is a must-see location on Düsseldorf’s modern side, with fabulous avant-garde architecture and the iconic twisted buildings that make up the Media Harbour.

Travel routes

Düsseldorf To Maastricht
It’s barely an hour’s drive from Düsseldorf to Maastricht in the southern part of The Netherlands. Rent a motorhome in Düsseldorf and enjoy the fascinating blend of Dutch, Belgian and German influences. The A52 takes you to the German border, and the road becomes the A2 – just 109 kilometres between the two locations. What lies below Maastricht is almost more fascinating than the city itself, with an 18th century fortress and a network of caves and tunnels dating back to 1575.

Bingen to Koblenz
The route from Bingen to Koblenz takes you through the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This 64-kilometre drive on the B9 follows the river valley as it meanders through terraced vineyards with picturesque castles perched on steep hills overlooking the water. It is straight from the pages of a fairytale. Some castles are in ruins, but others are open to the public for a visit. Starting your tour with campervan hire in Düsseldorf, it’s a pretty quick 209-kilometre drive on the E31 to Bingen am Rhein.

Münsterland
To the north of Düsseldorf lies Münsterland, not a well-known destination for visitors so happily undiscovered and unspoiled. There is a wetland area perfect for motorhome exploration and more than 100 varieties of water birds. It’s a great location to explore on foot or by bike and is famous for its castles. There is a cycle path called the 100 Schlösser Route, which links all one hundred castles. Take the A42 and A43 north from Düsseldorf, around 122 kilometres. For a more interesting route via Dortmund, take the A46 and E37 – it’s about the same distance.

Sites of interest and excursions in Düsseldorf

Ahr Valley
The Ahr is a tributary of the Rhine and home to one of Germany’s smaller wine-making regions. It is a paradise for red wine lovers or lovers of a peaceful and romantic landscape. The vineyards stretch for 25 kilometres along the riverbank. This part of the Ahr Valley is 99 kilometres from Düsseldorf on the E31 or the E35 and is an excellent area to explore for a few days or a day trip. With a camper van for hire in Düsseldorf, you can easily make the journey and enjoy the beauty of the region at your own pace.

Burg Eltz Castle
Said to be the most beautiful castle in Europe, Burg Eltz Castle sits on a hilltop between the Rhine and Mosel Rivers. Well-preserved and in the same family for nine centuries, the castle is open to the public with fascinating guided tours. The castle is 150 kilometres from Düsseldorf but only 38 kilometres from Koblenz, so it is worth adding to the end of a Bingen to Koblenz road tour.

Bonn
Bonn is a small and accessible city often overlooked by visitors. A centre for art, it is home to two of Germany’s most significant art museums. It is also the birthplace of Beethoven and the capital of the former West Germany until reunification. Bonn is only 70 kilometres from Düsseldorf.
